Verifying your identity

Confirming who you are is a core part of any notarization. Here is what you need and how it works online.

Before the notary can complete your notarial act, they must confirm your identity. You will provide your details and present a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID, and how your identity was confirmed becomes part of the notarial record.

What counts as valid ID

  • A current driver's license
  • A state-issued photo ID card
  • A passport or passport card

Your ID must be unexpired, show your photo, and be readable. The name on your ID should match the name on the document you are notarizing.

Step by step

Enter your details

Provide your name and the information requested so it can be matched against your ID.

Present your photo ID

Have your unexpired government-issued photo ID ready to show. Follow the on-screen prompts to capture or present it clearly.

Complete any verification steps

You may be asked to confirm identifying details as part of the process. Answer carefully.

Meet the notary

On the live call, the notary reviews your identity on the record before the notarial act.

Good to know: your connection is encrypted in transit with industry-standard TLS, and the session is audio-video recorded and retained per New Jersey's requirements.
Common issue: an expired ID, or a name that does not match the document. If either applies, contact us first so we can advise before you pay.
