What to have ready
- A device with a working camera and microphone: a phone, tablet, or computer
- A stable internet connection
- Your valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID
- Your unsigned document, uploaded ahead of time
- A quiet, well-lit space where you can be on camera
Step by step
Test your camera and microphone
Make sure both work and that your browser has permission to use them. Close other apps that might be using the camera.
Check your connection
A reliable connection prevents drops during the call. If you can, sit near your router or use a wired connection.
Find good light and quiet
Face a light source so the notary can see you and your ID clearly, and pick a spot with little background noise.
Keep your ID and document within reach
Have your ID in hand and your uploaded document ready so you can move through the steps without pausing.
Join the session
Start on demand or at your scheduled time. The notary will greet you, confirm your identity, and guide you through signing.
Good to know: most sessions take about 15 to 30 minutes, and the session is audio-video recorded as part of the notarial record.
