How online notarization works

From starting your request to downloading your sealed document, here is exactly what happens at each stage, what you do, and what to watch out for.

Remote Online Notarization (RON) lets you meet a commissioned New Jersey notary over secure live video instead of in person. You will need a device with a camera and microphone, a stable internet connection, your unsigned document, and a valid government-issued photo ID.

Start your request

You: create an account (or sign in) and choose to notarize on demand or schedule a time.

We: confirm your email and open your session workspace.

Next: you upload the document you need notarized.

Upload your document

You: upload the unsigned PDF. Do not sign it beforehand unless your specific instructions say otherwise.

We: store it privately and let you mark where you will sign.

Common issue: a document that is already signed, or a photo instead of a PDF. Upload a clean, unsigned PDF.

Verify your identity

You: enter your details and present a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID.

We: record how your identity was confirmed as part of the notarial record.

Common issue: an expired ID, or a name that does not match the document. Contact us first if either applies.

Pay securely

You: review your total and pay by card. $25 for the first notarial act, $15 for each additional act in the same session.

We: process payment securely through Stripe. Your full total is shown before you pay.

Next: you enter the waiting room and the notary is notified you are ready.

Meet your notary

You: join the live video session from your device. Have your ID and document on hand.

We: your commissioned New Jersey notary appears on camera, confirms your identity, and the session is audio-video recorded.

Common issue: a weak connection. A reliable internet connection and a quiet, well-lit space help the session go smoothly.

Sign and notarize

You: sign on camera when prompted.

We: the notary completes the notarial act and applies the notarial certificate on the record.

Next: your document is sealed and finalized.

Download your document

You: download your finished, tamper-evident sealed PDF from your account, and share it with whoever needs it.

We: retain the notarial record in line with New Jersey's requirements.

The seal can be verified so recipients can confirm your document is authentic and unaltered.
